Welcome to Cokesbury Kids!

by Betsy Parham -

Cokesbury Kids is your trusted resource for fresh, empowering spiritual learning materials that nurture the hearts and imaginations of children. But what is the Cokesbury Kids Blog?

This blog is all about ministry! Each week of 2020, our goal is to provide ideas to assist you as you minister to families and teach the gospel to the kids in your community.

Let’s get ready to share the joy and wonder of living the life of a disciple of Christ!

It’s January again. Yippee. ALL the Advent and Christmas events are done. It’s time to focus on a new beginning. Now, just how can you share this joy and wonder with others in 2020?

Well, let's start by saying: ministry to kids can be overwhelming. Some days it can seem as if you are in this ministry alone. Days of looking for substitutes to care for the children during worship services. Times when fresh ideas for a children’s sermon are out of reach. Sound familiar?

It is our mission to help so that you can feel a little less overwhelmed, a little less alone, and get back to focusing on what’s important: sharing the gospel.

We’d also like this blog to be a place to share big ideas. We know children’s ministry can be challenging, but it’s important that you keep dreaming.

Are there areas in your ministry you would love to tweak, change, discontinue? Name them. Now imagine the look and feel of that ministry. Children’s ministry starts with you, so pack your *hats for this amazing adventure.

Leaders of kids serve as a coach for your leadership team. Coaches need a game plan in place to be ready to navigate any situation from Sunday to Sunday.

Leaders of kids need to be approachable, fun, engaging, supportive, and provide unconditional love for all the children in your midst.

Leaders of kids must be flexible, ready to adjust plans that include the whole congregation as well as the ability to get along with staff, parents, and leaders.

Leaders of kids need to be able to suit a wide variety of people which includes, parents, grandparents, and caregivers. Leaders need to be ready to listen, offer support, guidance and speak with authority.

Chef Hat

Leaders of kids need to blend all these qualities together. This action will provide a ministry to kids that is full of adventure, strong Bible teaching, and knowledge that God loves them as you create an environment that helps children sense joy and wonder each day.

Thank you for giving of your time, talents, gifts, and energy to provide a solid biblical foundation for the faith development of the children in your church and community. It is our hope that this blog will equip you to navigate the highs and lows, the challenges and the celebrations, of 2020.

Check back next week to discover ways to embrace 2020!
